Video Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos throughout the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, using a web account. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to achieve the highest mixture of cards possible in order to win money. On this account it is much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "dealt" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he or she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced players are agile enough to select the most profitable machine each and every time.

As soon as the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which instance a further round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
